Commercial Fishing Safety Trainings

The NEC in partnership with Fishing Partnership Support Services offers commercial fishing safety trainings as often as funding allows. To find out the date and location of the training nearest you, please contact us by email at or phone at (800) 343-7527.

Basic Conductor Trainings

One-day, hands-on training consists of six one-hour modules that cover the topics below:

  • Survival Suits
  • Damage Control
  • Fire Fighting and Emergency Communications
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Man Overboard Procedures and Helicopter Hoist Procedures
  • Life Rafts and Emergency Flares

Drill Conductor Course

This course builds on the skills learned in the Basic Safety Training and is only open to fishermen who have attended the Basic course. The one-day training involves an Emergency Procedures classroom/morning section and On-board Drills (aboard a local vessel) in the afternoon section. Completion of this course meets the Drill Conductor certification requirements of 46 CFR 28.270, and allows the fishermen to conduct the monthly required drills of Man Overboard, Fire, Damage Control, and Abandon Ship.

First Aid/CPR/Ergonomics Course

This course in completed in 4 hours and provides a Red Cross certification. It also includes the proper use of AEDs. The Ergonomics portion incorporates a program produced by AMSEA under an OSHA grant. It specifically addresses ergonomic issues for commercial fishermen, including adapting the work space, tools, equipment, and work methods for a more efficient, comfortable and error-free work environment.

Health Screenings from Mobile Clinic

With convenient access to health care, occupational safety information and training through our mobile unit, taking care of your health and the health of your employees is easy and affordable.

Staffed by trained health and safety professionals, the mobile clinic travels throughout the Northeast, bringing basic health screenings and occupational goods and services to our customers where they live and work. Services are also provided at certain trade shows and events.
